There are many different types of infections, which can be due to varying factors. It is important to make an appointment to see one of our physicians or nurse practitioners if you feel you may have an infection. The sooner you have a diagnosis, the easier it is to treat.

Common Infections

If you think you may have an infection, it’s important to be diagnosed by a physician or nurse practitioner and be treated promptly. Here are some of the more common gynecological infections:

Bladder Infection and UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)

Symptoms Include:

  • Burning
  • Strong, frequent urge to urinate
  • Lower abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Blood in urine

Our physicians or nurse practitioners will perform an exam, and obtain a urinalysis culture to diagnose and accurately treat. A bladder infection or urinary tract infection can be treated with antibiotics and pain relievers.

Vaginitis

Symptoms include:

  • Abnormal discharge / color change
  • Odor
  • Itching
  • Irritation
  • Burning

There are numerous types of Vaginitis:

  • Yeast Infection
  • Bacterial Vaginitis
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Atrophic Vaginitis

Diagnosis by a physician or nurse practitioner is necessary to properly treat the infection with either cream or oral medication.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

STIs are very common. You may not experience any symptoms, or you may have the following common symptoms:

  • Discharge
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Spotting
  • Sores
  • Painful urination

It’s important that you are evaluated in the office and treated with medication.
