Menopause is a natural change all women go through involving the loss of hormone function in the late 40's or early 50's. There are three stages of menopause: pre menopause, perimenopause and post menopause. This natural progression can sometimes create some uncomfortable symptoms, which treatment may be able to relieve.
Northeast OB/Gyn treats menopausal women with the utmost understanding. Recognized by the American Menopause Society, our own Dr. Akright is a Certified Menopause Practitioner — one of only a select few in San Antonio. Our nurse practitioner, Marney Kidwell, is also.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I in menopause?
If your periods have become irregular, you are experiencing some of the common symptoms, and you are in your late 40's or early 50's, you are likely entering menopause. Visit with one of our physicians to determine which stage of menopause you are in and whether or not you would benefit from treatment.
Do I need hormone therapy?
An assessment of your symptoms is necessary to determine the best treatment options for you.
Are bioidentical hormones better?
Bioidentical hormones are one option for hormone replacement, and can be obtained through prescriptions from any pharmacy or from compounded products made at a compounding pharmacy. To date, there is no evidence that bioidentical hormones are any better or safer than the other prescribed hormone regimens.
